arranged for Handbells and Hand Chimes by Susan E. Geschke

In memory of Rick James, Dr. Susan E. Geschke has arranged a beautiful handbell arrangement of, "As the Deer" by Martin Nystrom, for the SCA Handbell choirs.  It has been published by Hope Publishing Company.

A 2004 graduate of Seaford Christian Academy, Lance Corporal Richard Zachary James was known for his enthusiasm for life, his excellence in sports, and for enjoying a good practical joke.  As a young boy, Rick dreamed of being a Marine.  After graduating from high school, he enlisted and served bravely in Iraq until May 13, 2006 when he was killed in action.

Jon, Rick’s younger brother and a senior at the Seaford Christian Academy, played “As the Deer” on guitar in memory of Rick at the Senior Chapel Service.  The lyrics, “You alone are my strength, my shield…” were an uplifting reminder that God is the source of our strength in times of great loss.  This song touched the hearts of the entire student body and has remained a source of comfort for all those present.  Rick is remembered by all as a hero, who like our Savior, Jesus Christ, gave his life that we might be free.
